At some institutions, paying and sitting for certification exams is an option, rather than a requirement. But for students of Fortis College in Centerville, OH, this is not the case. Here, tuition covers the cost of test vouchers, while taking and passing at least two certification exams constitutes a prerequisite for graduation. Twelve first-year day students in the enhanced Information & Communication Technology (ICT) program at Kingston, Jamaica-based Vector Technology Institute recently passed their CompTIA A+ exams. With CompTIA certification as well as an academic degree, the students will be ready to prove to potential employers that they have the knowledge and hands-on experience to successfully fulfill their IT job responsibilities.

When Kris Persaud joined Compugen as a contract technician, management not only encouraged him to obtain CompTIA vendor-neutral certification; they deemed it a prerequisite for permanent hire.
